About Brewster Little League..."55 years strong"

Brewster Little League became a chartered member of Little League Baseball Incorporated, in 1952. Then, the entire league consisted of four teams who played their games behind the Garden Street School. In 2006, over 700 boys and girls, ages 5 to 18, played over 200 regular season games utilizing eleven fields at seven different locations within the Town of Southeast.

Our local program is made possible by many adult volunteers from within our community. Some are the parents of players and some are not. These volunteers give freely of their time as Board Members, coaches, umpires, division heads, groundskeepers, etc. with one goal in mind, that of making the program a big success.

The general members (parents) of our league annually elect a Board of Directors who provide the administration and decision making of our baseball program. This election is usually held during the month of October. Parents are notified of the actual date via a mailing, as long as their child is registered in the program. Any adult resident who lives within our jurisdiction is eligible to run for a position on the board.

Teams are formed by age group and (or) skill level in March. Play begins in April and continues through the middle of June. Thereafter, select teams play tournament and All Star games in June, July, and August. Opportunities for recreational summer and fall ball are available thru Brewster Little League in the Westchester Putnam Baseball Association (WPBA).

Teams meet two or three times a week after school and on weekends for games and practices. The days and times vary from week to week according to field availability and, of course, weather.

In all age groups, teams are organized and supervised by an adult called a MANAGER. He is helped on the field by an adult called a COACH. The Local Board must unanimously approve candidates to fill these two team positions.

Playing rules are the rules of baseball as modified by Little League International to suit the needs of youngsters. Twelve-year-olds, for example, pitch from 46 feet, rather than 60, and bases are 60 feet apart, rather than 90. The Board may also elect to utilize certain local rules.

Brewster Little League operates as a non-profit organization, therefore, gifts to the league are tax deductible and graciously accepted.
